The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre is proud to present PitchIt! - a student societies' entrepreneurship competition in partnership with the Students' Union at The University of Manchester.

In 2020, the University of Manchester Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) and Students’ Union came together to discuss how to promote entrepreneurship and help students build an entrepreneurial mindset. An important outcome was PitchIt! - a student societies’ entrepreneurship competition. PitchIt! is ideal for students who are driven to develop their entrepreneurial skills, strategic thinking, and network with like-minded individuals. Societies are encouraged to form an innovative project team to develop a proposal to win up to £1,250 from a £6,000 prize pot to help support projects and initiatives that will generate income for their society and expand impact.
PitchIt! competition is held in Semester 2 of the academic year.
Applications open at the on Monday 3rd February 2025 at 9.00am.
Applications close on Sunday 2nd March 2025 at 23.59pm.
A pitching workshop is scheduled in this month on Wednesday 19th February at 4.00pm. At least 2 representatives from the society including the PitchIt! Rep who is the person pitching at the finals should attend this workshop as it is one of the 4 criteria used to shortlist your application.
Shortlisted finalist societies will be announced on Wednesday 5th March 2025 at 1.00pm via email to the society representative.
PitchIt! Finals will take place on Wednesday 12th March at 4.30pm.
1. You need to be a registered group with the University of Manchester Students’ Union to apply for PitchIt! 2025.
2. Complete the online application form in full, including a 6-8 slides max pitch deck and the individual questions. The following criteria will be used to shortlist your application. You will be given a score out of 5 for each one of these and the top 10 societies with the highest scores out of 20 will be the finalist societies.
- Entrepreneurial Flair: We’re looking for creative and innovative ideas that showcase entrepreneurial thinking. Your proposal should outline how your society plans to generate income or expand its impact. Examples of suitable projects include ticketed events with a unique concept, developing and selling a product or service or exciting and original fundraising projects.
- Feasibility: Your proposed activities must be realistic and achievable and your projects should be completed before the end of Semester 1 of the next academic year. Proposals should clearly demonstrate a timeline of how you plan to execute the idea.
- Use of Funds: You need to have a breakdown of expected use of funds.
- Participation in Pitching Workshop: This workshop scheduled on Wednesday 19th December at 4.00pm is designed to help applicants learn the basics of how to pitch and what to include in a pitch deck; participation of your society at this workshop will be one of the criteria taken into consideration when finalists are being shortlisted.
3. Have 1 committee member be your PitchIt! Rep to pitch at the finals. It is mandatory for this person to attend our Pitching workshop.
4. If shortlisted, have at least 2 committee members (including your PitchIt! Rep) to represent your society at the Finals.
5. It is mandatory for winners to sign a Project Agreement contract with MEC and complete the feedback form which will be sent to you with pictures/videos/written update of your event/project by latest 15th December 2025 at midnight.
