Why study entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship is much broader than starting a business. It's about recognising opportunities, solving problems, developing and testing ideas, working with others and creating value – essential skills and attributes for everybody. Whatever you study, you can elect to take credit-bearing enterprise units as part of your degree. No business background necessary, expected or required.
Undergraduates can take enterprise units in years 1, 2 and 3 alongside their degree. Postgraduates can specialise further, with units designed for specific disciplines including Public Health, Life Sciences, Materials & Fashion, and Alliance Manchester Business School. New for 2026/27, Enterprising & Entrepreneurial Futures lets you study fully online, with no extra timetabled class added to your week.
Excellence Recognised
The Entrepreneurship Academic Excellence Award recognises outstanding academic achievement in entrepreneurship education in each participating School for those enrolled on a MEC unit.

To enrol on our elective units, use the Course Unit Selection System.
Course unit selection opens in August 2025. Your School will send you the open date and time for your programme, and the deadline to finish enrolling.

Our electives require approval from your department. Please contact your Course Administrator before enrolling.
If you have approval but cannot see our units on the system, please contact your School, and also email entrepreneurship@manchester.ac.uk
The process for enrolment is the same for all of our elective units, no matter the course code prefix (‘MCEL’, ‘UCIL’ or other).
Please note, some of our units are delivered in partnership with the University College of Interdisciplinary Learning, so have course codes beginning with ‘UCIL’. For more information about enrolling on UCIL Entrepreneurship units, please see further guidance on the UCIL site.
